The Postpartum Basket

Everyone knows you should never show up empty handed to the home of a new mom, but the question remains, what should you bring?

Flowers are always special (as long as you trim them and set them in the vase yourself, or else they may just sit on the counter in the wrapping for a while…)

A warm meal is amazing, bonus if it’s homemade!

But I like to show up with a little postpartum basket. Who doesn't love a basket!?

Filled with little gifts just for her, I want the mother I’m gifting a basket to to feel excited by her goodies, eager to try the things you knew she’d love and interested to try some new things she hadn't thought of getting herself. A basket is a wonderful way to say, I see what you’re going through, anticipated some of your needs, and wanted to bring you a little joy.

Here are the categories I like to hit when creating the perfect basket!

Postpartum essentials

Nipple balm, a peri bottle, claw clips and hair ties, getting her something specifically for the postpartum period is a way to let her know you see what she’s going through.

Something delicious

Coconut water, bone broth, mothers milk tea, something to ingest is always appreciated postpartum! This is also a great way for a new mom to try new things she might not buy herself, like protein bar flavours and electrolyte packages!

Something cozy

Soft socks are my go to, but an eye mask, a new pair of PJ’s (bonus If they button up the front!), a candle are a great way to encourage the new mom in your life to take a little time for self care.

Something for the shower
Showers are sometimes the only alone time a postpartum woman gets (and it can be rare!) so something to make the shower feel more like a spa experience can be an exciting treat now more than ever!

Something homemade

Something homemade just hits different! Whether it’s a snack, a meal, a craft, or a card, something homemade adds a personal, thoughtful touch. Postpartum can be an isolating time, but something made from the heart is way to show you care.

Some words of affirmation

I love to add postpartum affirmation cards to my baskets, but your own words make a difference too! Any way you can tell a new mom she’s doing an amazing job is always appreciated, and means more than you know.

And now you have yourself a basket, and a new mom who feels seen, appreciated, and considered. <3
